Baltimore Plastic Surgeon Examines Role of Hair Restoration in the Field of Cosmetic Enhancement

BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwired - Aug 21, 2013) - Dr. James E. Vogel, a board-certified plastic surgeon who also performs restoration treatments for hair loss, runs his private practice with the philosophy that the patient always comes first. As part of this commitment to his patients, Dr. Vogel both participates and contributes to ongoing educational endeavors in his field, believing that a physician who remains up-to-date with the latest advances in care will ultimately be able to deliver the best surgical results.

Dr. Vogel recently attended the 9th annual Vegas Cosmetic Surgery Symposium. The 2013 symposium took place June 26th-June 30th and marked Dr. Vogel's third time lecturing at the event. At the 2013 Vegas Cosmetic Surgery Symposium, Dr. Vogel delivered a lecture on hair restoration surgery, including topics such as:

Hair restoration techniques Patient selection Avoiding complications Managing difficult problems

"Hair restoration is a very exciting part of aesthetic surgery," says Dr. Vogel. "It's not just a separate isolated specialty." According to Dr. Vogel, procedures like hair transplants are an integral component of plastic surgery as a whole, since they address the upper third of the face. He says the plastic surgeon's job is not only to look at the lower two thirds of the face but the entire facial aesthetic. Dr. Vogel views hair restoration surgery as completing the full scope of the mission of aesthetic/general plastic surgeons and finds it to be a very fulfilling aspect of his own plastic surgery practice in Baltimore.

Dr. Vogel reports that people at the symposium "were interested in follicular unit extraction and how to use this new technique to manage the appearance of hair transplants performed using older, outdated techniques." Attendees of his lectures also expressed interest in how to start up a practice in hair restoration surgery, as well as the synergy that exists between hair restoration surgery and traditional cosmetic surgery practices.

As both an attendee and a lecturer for the past three years, the plastic surgeon believes both roles go hand-in-hand, as all members of the conference are continually sharing their unique experiences. According to Dr. Vogel, it is a common occurrence for all participants to discuss their individual approaches and personal techniques in the hallways of the symposium, in between lectures, and during the social events hosted by the conference.

When asked if there was anything he learned from this latest symposium, Dr. Vogel responded: "There always is." At this most recent event, he cited techniques for lowering the hairline and reducing the size of one's forehead, techniques for injectables and other nonsurgical options, and new advances in revision breast augmentation surgery as his major points of interest.

"You can obtain all of this information and advances from others in the field to bring back new techniques and perspectives," says Dr. Vogel. "I think it is important that doctors participate in continuing education, both on the receiving end and on the lecturing end." Dr. Vogel says he believes both are integral to achieving the goal of all aesthetic and plastic surgeons -- to better assist patients and deliver increasingly better results.
